Our goal is to strengthen family relationships to help kids be and become their best selves
and to support parents in raising happy, successful, resilient kids in an exciting,
but sometimes turbulent and dangerous world.

Attend a Concert
Family Adventure
GOAL:
Help family members develop an appreciation for music, learn concert etiquette, and enjoy some of the wonderful concerts available in the community.
The ADVENTURE:
Review the following information and then choose a local concert to enjoy together as a family.

Choose a fun family treat to enjoy together after the concert
If your child is in the concert, share a picture or short videoclip from it on your social media profiles and share how proud you are of the work the child puts into developing their musical talent.
If your child has an interest in developing their musical talent do something to show your support. This could be helping them gain access to an instrument they want to play, a teacher to help them, extra time to practice, or simply words of encouragement and complementing their effort and/or progress.
Almost every community has a wide variety of free family concerts available for you to enjoy, especially during the holiday season and the summer. Good places to watch for talents include:
Local schools and universities
Community music organizations
In Utah, most communities with a Tabernacle host daily concerts during the summer and holidays
Stay tuned to your local My Discovery Destination! Facebook community to find listings of free concerts in your area
For this Adventure take some time to attend a concert together and enjoy the musical talent of others. If you are a musician, the whole family can support that family member by attending their concert.
You will want to review concert etiquette with your family before the concert. Here are some resources:

Here are some questions your family can discuss before, during (as appropriate- breaks, etc.) and after the concert when you attend:
How much time do you think it takes to develop that kind of talent?
If you were to play an instrument, what would you choose? (Remember-- the voice is an instrument!)
Which musical numbers did you like the most, and why?
What did you notice about the concert? This could be anything-- the point is to encourage everyone to be observant and begin to notice things around them.
