The Writer

Family Adventure

The very best place to start writing is to start a journal!

Grab a notebook and write a few sentences about your day every night before bed. Sundays are a great day to take a little longer and write down some of the lessons you learned during the week, some things you feel really good about that happened, and some things you'd like to do differently the next time.

Pre-K Adventure

Beginning writer's can draw picture's to get their idea's across. For this adventure create a journal. Everyday for a week draw a picture of what you have done or something you like. Then have an older sibling or parent write the word or sentence that tells about the picture.

Parents: Prehensile skills are very important as you develop a writer. This is the use of the thumb and forefinger. Kid's can strengthen these muscles by practicing picking things up with tweezers or by practice using a writing tool, etc.

Definition:

Fine motor skills are the small movements that occur in the hands, wrists, and fingers. ... In-hand manipulation. Grasp and prehensile patterns. Bilateral coordination.
