Event

If you'd like to introduce someone to fishing — or you'd like to give fishing a try, but you don't have a fishing license — FREE FISH DAY is the way to go! Saturday, June 10th, is Free Fishing Day in Utah for 2023 and you don't need a fishing license to fish in the state that day.

If you don't have any fishing equipment — but you'd like some help fishing — there will be special events at waters throughout the state. Check out https://wildlife.utah.gov/news/utah-wildlife-news/1671-places-to-go-on-free-fishing-day-2023.html for details about what is available in your local area.

COMMUNITY FISHING PONDS

If there isn't a free fishing event in your area, another good option is to fish at one of the community ponds across Utah. You’ll likely have company on Free Fishing Day, but these waterbodies are great places for beginning anglers to fish. The ponds are close to home, most have restrooms and other facilities, and many of them will be stocked with channel catfish — averaging 14 inches long.

LEARN THE RULES

You don’t need a license to fish on Free Fish Day, but the other fishing rules in Utah will still be in effect. The rules are available in the 2023 Utah Fishing Guidebook.

Family Adventure

If you miss FREE Fishing Day no worries. You can still complete this Adventure on another day at another time. The important thing is to spend time together as a family CREATING and CAPTURING Memories and building relationships. Have Fun!!

Pre-K Adventure

Fishing is great fun for our little adventurers . . . for about a minute!!  Okay-- maybe a few minutes.  Keep in mind the attention span of your youngest adventurers and be sure to plan accordingly.  Community fish ponds where the kids can see plenty of fish swimming around is a great option for the little ones.

Visiting an aquarium or the aquarium in a pet store is also an option, but you won't be fishing, of course!!   That's okay. The point is to take time to CREATE and CAPTURE Memories, and be together as a family!

Community Engagement Adventure

Ready to take fishing to the next level? Now it's time to cook up the fish that you caught! Get help from your parents, and enjoy a tasty meal!

Teen Adventure

If you miss FREE Fishing Day no worries. You can still complete this Adventure on another day at another time. The important thing is to spend time together as a family CREATING and CAPTURING Memories and building relationships. Have Fun!!
