Family Adventure

For the Summer 2018 session our theme was #UseTech4Good. It's still a GREAT Adventure, and we'd love to share it again as part of Summer Passport 2021!

Our goal is to help change conversations and culture around kids and technology.  We want to invite youth and adults to find and create the GOOD online. It replaces the fear with positive, deliberate, constructive ways youth and adults can work together with technology.  The sky is the limit. You (youth) create, share, uplift using technology.

To complete this Adventure there are 3 simple steps:

1.Look around at ways that others are using technology for good. It can be as small as tweeting compliments or as big as creating a kindness channel; it can be as simple as teaching an older person to use their technology or as complex as students solving a water crisis for people in a third world country; it can be something you do on a daily basis like finding someone to sit with at lunch or as life-changing as making key medical advances or preventing bullying.  Are you worried that you are too young? Look at how this 4th grader impacted his community.

2.  Next, as you go from Adventure to Adventure this summer look for ways that technology has impacted the way the different Adventures, including the Adventure Partners as they provide their goods and services to the public.

3. Now take a minute to consider how YOU can use your technology, your interests and your skills to #UseTech4Good.

4.  You can easily share your experiences with us. We'd love to hear from you!

Our goal is to help change conversations and culture around kids and technology.  We want to invite youth and adults to find and create the GOOD online. It's never too early for us to begin having simple conversations with our little ones to help them learn to be aware of technology and how it can, and should, be used for good:

1. Help your little ones notice ways that technology is being used for good all around them.

2.  This summer as you go from Adventure to Adventure take a few minutes during or after the adventure to discuss with your little ones how technology has impacted the way the different Adventure Sponsors provide their goods and services to the public. Help create an awareness that they will carry with them throughout life.

3. Next take a minute to help them consider how they can use the technology they have available, their interests and their growing skills to #UseTech4Good.

4.  Help them share their experiences with us. We'd love to hear what your amazing little ones are doing!

Community Engagement Adventure

Super Achievers will keep a journal of their #UseTech4Good experiences and insights. Just grab a notebook and write down whatever thoughts come to mind about using technology for good after each adventure, or even between adventures.

What is Digital Citizenship?

Digital citizenship is the ability to participate safely, intelligently, productively, and responsibly in the digital world.

Digital citizenship should also include positive, creative, deliberate use of technological tools and skills to create, connect, communicate, and collaborate in ways that make a positive contribution to family, school, and community life.

DigCitUtah was created by EPIK Deliberate Digital, a nonprofit focused on facilitating conversation and collaboration around the opportunities and challenges of raising children in a digital world. In particular, this website was created to support school community councils, educators, administrators, and parents in their digital citizenship education efforts, and to expand the conversation around what it means for youth and adults to be good digital citizens.
